Materia Inc. was founded in 1997, originally as Advanced Sports Materials, with a mission to commercialize metathesis polymer technology invented and developed at the California Institute of Technology. Following the rapid development of the firm’s metathesis technology and the expansion of the company's core technologies, the company changed its name to Materia and began pursuing applications in broader materials and Fine Chemical markets. The continued expansion of the company's technology platform includes the addition of asymmetric metathesis catalyst technology and Organocatalysis for the production of chiral building blocks, intermediates, and active pharmaceuticals.
