Fraunhofer Nanotech

The work of the Fraunhofer Nanotechnology Alliance covers the whole R&D value chain from application-oriented research to industrial implementation. For optical applications, automotive and electrical industries a new generation of multifunctional layers were created. Almost one third of the Fraunhofer Institute works with nanotechnologies.
The activities of Nanotechnology Alliance are focused on the design of special nanoparticles as fillers (carbon nanotubes, metals, oxides etc), nano-composites, functional materials e.g for biomedical applications and CNT-based structural materials and actuators. The alliance also treats questions regarding toxicology and operational safety when dealing with nanoparticles. The institutes of this alliance focuses its activities on the following main topics: 1, Nano-materials: IFAM, ISC, IKTS, IWM, IWS, ICT, IAP, IVV 2, Nano-biotechnology IGB, ITEM 3, Nano processing / handling IAP, IFF, ILT 4, Technology transfer and consulting IAO, ISI 5, Nano-optics and
