About Company
Boston Micromachines Corporation produces micro-machined deformable mirrors for optical wavefront control. Our continuous and segmented deformable mirrors (DMs) offer unparalleled optical performance in adaptive optics (AO) applications requiring cost-effective wavefront compensation. Our compact devices are currently integral components in OEM, microscopes, telescopes and laser beam forming systems throughout the world. Our technology has led to breakthrough products that enhance systems for retinal imaging, LASIK cornea surgery, optical recognition / identification, and long-range laser communication.
We currently supply aperture sizes ranging from 2 mm to 12 mm with corresponding actuator counts from 32 to 1,024. In addition to our standard product line, we also offer custom design-manufacturing services.
Boston Micromachines’ deformable mirrors are advanced wavefront control devices that consist of a mirror membrane supported by an underlying actuator array. Each actuator in the array can be individually deflected by electrostatic actuation to achieve the desired pattern of deformation. Unlike piezoelectric mirrors, electrostatic actuation ensures mirror deformation without hysteresis.
