The main aim is to apply the recently developed tools, techniques and materials to the emerging field of Nanoelectronics.
The group of Peter Grutter is one of the internationally leading groups on the development of atomic force microscopes (AFM) and its application to understanding how nanoscale objects can be used for information storage and processing - the area commonly known as nanolectronics. Here are some of their areas of research:
1. They research the behavior of individual electrons in quantum dots
2. How one or a few single molecules conduct electricity and how this depends on the atomic structure of the contacts and interaction with light
