The mission of the Centre for Functional Genomics is to develop new technologies and to exploit recent advances in gene expression profiling, bioinformatics, and proteomics to discover gene function.
This Centre's aim is to develop new technologies and to exploit recent advances in gene expression profiling, bioinformatics, and proteomics to discover gene function. This knowledge will be integrated into the investigation of genetic tracks that regulate organismal development and physiology.
Functional Genomics has followed as a relatively new area within the field of genomic research. It presents a platform on which to investigate the biochemical and biological function of gene products, especially proteins. The function of specific proteins is governed by their enzymatic activity and biochemical properties.
In fact, the research aim of the Centre is the general field of mammalian functional genomics. They are interested in developing new technologies to ascertain the function of genes at the cellular and organismal level. In addition, their principal research focus is in the field of human diseases, especially cancer. In fact, they are developing new functional genomics tools to rapidly define protein function in mammalian cells.
