They try to understand the fundamental operations of the sleeping-waking brain.
This center was founded in 1992 at the University of Toronto. Dr. Harvey Moldofsky, Professor of Psychiatry and Medicine, was appointed as the founding Director of the Centre. The research activities are in various laboratories in university departments within the Faculties of Medicine and Arts and Sciences, as well as the Defense and Civil Institute of Environment Medicine and university-affiliated institutions or hospitals.
Their main aims are:
- To understand how rhythmicity is produced and controlled in health and disease;
- To improve treatments for sleep-related medical and psychiatric disorders;
- To eliminate human performance inefficiencies resulting from shift work, time zone travel, and abnormal sleep-wake activity.
